Safeguarding
Ditton Infant School will endeavour to support the welfare and safety of all pupils by:
- Ensuring that all adults within our school who have substantial access to children have been checked as to their suitability and are monitored consistently.
- Ensuring the content of the curriculum helps children understand how to stay safe and recognise when they don’t feel safe.
- Providing suitable support and guidance so that children have a range of appropriate adults to approach if they are in difficulties.
- Providing staff training which highlights the responsibility of all staff to safeguard children, recognise signs and symptoms of abuse and have a clear understanding of the procedures for reporting possible cases of abuse.
- Supporting the child’s development in ways that will foster security, confidence and independence.
- Ensuring steps are taken to maintain site security and children’s physical safety.
- Ensuring steps are taken to address children’s self-care, health and medical needs through plans developed in partnership with parents and the child.
- Working with parents to build an understanding of the school’s responsibility to ensure the welfare of all children including the need for referral to other agencies in some situations.
- Monitoring children who have been identified as having welfare or child protection concerns and keeping confidential records which are stored securely and shared appropriately with other professionals.
- Developing and promoting effective working relationships with other agencies, especially Children’s Social Care.
- Supporting Kent Police in using the Operation Encompass Scheme. (Operation Encompass has been set-up to help schools to provide support to children who have been present or exposed to or involved in any domestic abuse incident.)
